Rosso Emerald Crimson

In her portraiture, London-based artist Rosso Emerald Crimson renders female subjects who emerge through a haze of pastels and muted tones. The artist often depicts the women and girls staring forward with unsmiling expressions. Technically, while the portrayal of the figures is achieved by a meticulous rendering using traditional oil painting techniques, the deconstruction (and reconstruction) of the surrounding is achieved by juxtaposition of different media, including spray paint, vigorous scraping and scratching of the surface and application of metal leaf and gilding. Rosso is primarily a self-taught artist. She’s been selected as a 2021 finalist in the “Beautiful Bizarre Art Prize” international competition. She won the “Jackson Open Painting Prize 2019 (JOPP2019)” for the Portrait/Figure category; “The Holly Bush Emerging Woman Painter Prize 2017” and the “Emerald Winter Pride Art Award” in 2016. She was twice selected to participate in “Sky Portrait Artist of The Year”, aired nationwide in UK in 2020 and in 2019. Rosso’s art has been featured in Colossal, Evolved Mag, MyModernMet, Artists&Illustrator; The Artist’s Magazine, etc and on cover of Arena Magazine (Australia). Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally (UK, Norway, US), included in Saatchiart shows, and sold to renown art collectors worldwide.

Emma is a self taught artist and now sells across the globe and teaches her style online. Tracy Verdugo

If Tracy Verdugo was given the opportunity to coin a term for a new art movement based around what she teaches she might call it “Curiosity and Wonderism” or maybe “Loosen-upism” or “Endless possibilitism”. Tracy is an inspiration instigator, gentle guide, prolific painter, bestselling author, smitten traveler and soaker up of all that is beauty-full. She teaches her creative workshops all over this amazing planet and also online, always with the overriding intention to remind her students of the wonder that already resides within them. When she is not hanging out with her family in their “made with love” adobe home in a small village on the shores of Jervis Bay, Australia, or throwing paint around in her little purple studio in their backyard, you might find her painting beside thermal pools on an Italian island with an eager group of students, or sitting in a circle on St Pete Beach, Florida, listening intently as women share their stories of creative yearning. Her paintings are vibrant and filled with joy, inspired both by global travels and the simple beauty of the focused moment. Since 2000 Tracy has held 18 successful solo exhibitions and her works are held in collections both in Australia and internationally. Mostly though, she is mama bear to two gorgeous, zest-filled daughters, Santana and Cece, Ita to precious granddaughter Nora Luz and co-adventurer in life with her amor of 36 years, the talented and brilliant Marco. She illustrates anatomical and surgical textbooks, and spends her days drawing what lies beneath the skin for clients worldwide.  A busy career kept her away from portrait drawing for years until she decided to start applying her digital painting skills to portraits for fun. She adores experimenting with different styles and creating digital portraits with programs like Procreate- but she also cherishes the months she can dust off her brushes and pencils and get her hands covered in paint or graphite.  She believes that the process of creating art should make the artist smile from start to finish.  Her portraits are influenced by her love of anatomy, and desire to add whimsical twists.

Elena Mahoney

As an artist, paint has become the main medium through which I explore, discover and polish my potential as a person. Through the techniques of oil, acrylic, watercolour and gouache I direct my fascination towards the human and animal figure as the primary motif of my work. Painting in my case is presented as a continuous search for beauty. Guided by the determination to follow in the footsteps of my influences in the art world and the quality I find in their work. My paintings, characterized by their exaggerated colours and magical settings, pursue my image of beauty that I feel to a certain extent bigger than my own being, ending up with an independent, subjective and at the same time universal work. The faithful representation of the figures in my paintings is combined with the gestures and versatility that the medium itself offers me. Drips, organic and intuitive brushstrokes, subtle details, drawings and glazes cover my work granting rawness and abstraction to it.

Jenny Manno

A teacher inspires a young artist
In the 6th grade I had an art teacher, Mrs.Goddard, who saw a spark of talent in me. She ultimately took me under her wing, encouraging me to recognize it in myself. It wasn’t uncommon for Mrs.Goddard to send another student to pull me from class to help with large school art projects. Being one of the taller girls in school I never really felt like I fit in, so when Mrs. Goddard would request my assistance with various art projects I always felt special. I knew at an early age that this was a once in a lifetime experience. The watercolor carousel horse I was working on in Mrs. Goddard’s class eventually caught the eye of the school principal, Ms. Lee, and before I knew it, I had my first commission. Upon completion, Ms. Lee not only paid me $5.00, she also framed and hung it in her office. It was in that moment that I knew the importance of art and the impact it was going to have in my life. Forty years later and I am still creating, sharing it with the world and making a difference. I have THE BEST JOB in the world! JensPaperFriends

Rachel Azzopardi Carbonese

Rachel is a contemporary artist with a love for emotion and its visual expression. Her painting journey started in childhood, being mentored by the late Charles Cassar right into her late teens. Her fascination with the human form remained a constant and manifested itself into painting portraits with a particular focus on the emotional state. In her personal work, Rachel attempts to capture a specific facial gesture, with the aim of using the imagery to transfer a mood, a message, or even a feeling. Rachel spends most of her time in her studio, painting portrait commissions and expanding her personal body of work, exploring how human expression can be received and interpreted, versus how the subject intends to communicate their emotion.

Kate Higgins

I am a British-Australian Artist working across drawing mediums, with a specific focus on graphite and coloured pencil. With degrees in Anthropology and Criminology, I initially ventured into a career in government policy analysis, before accepting my true (and hopefully long-lasting) calling in the visual arts. Over recent years, I have also been fortunate to win a number of drawing awards and commendations for my graphite portraiture work in the Australia-Eastern region.  I am passionate about drawing because there is no end to how much the artist can stretch themselves via a single, humble tool – the pencil. I consider portrait and figure studies a cornerstone of my observational practice and focus on emphasising dimension, details that make people unique and in trying to capture subjects without contrivance. A more recent aspect of my work is to combine graphite and coloured pencil phases into single artworks with a distinct illustrative quality and multi-dimensional tonal impressions. All-in-all, I look to create bold, characterful pieces that demonstrate a strong respect for traditional drawing techniques; I therefore ascribe great importance to principles of proportion, perspective, form and value.

Bonita Hendriks

My name is Bonita Balster-Hendriks and I live in The Netherlands together with my husband, daughter Luna (6 years old) and three cats. Ever since I was a young child I have always been creating. I remember always carrying some sheets of drawing paper or a sketchbook around, together with a graphite pencil and a reference picture of a celebrity. Then I became a primary school teacher and stopped creating. After a huge life change in 2016 (the start of chronic nervepain issues) I re-discovered drawing. I started to experiment and play with other mediums as well, loving the use of colour and endless possibilities of mixed media. Creating made me able to express my inner feelings, find some calm and joy. It helped me to handle the chronic nervepain and to stay positive. When I’m creating I feel like I can escape to another world where anything is possible. Nowadays I create in different mediums such as colored pencil, graphite, watercolor, acrylics and oils. I also love to play and experiment with mixed media. I love to put a lot of details in my creations. I often create portraits, but I also like to get inspired by nature and create insects, pets, flowers, etc.

Joan Martin

Joan Martin is an artist and high school art teacher who lives in Durban on the tropical east coast of South Africa. Joan Martin works predominantly in mixed media and her attitude to art-making has been described as “reflecting intense curiosity and creative courage”. She often subverts her own process by consciously using tools that she can’t control or by splashing materials over her work that can potentially destroy the image. Experimentation and making marks is what drive her artistic journey. She believes that too many people see art as a product instead of an experience. She includes experimentation and “play” in both her own art and in her teaching and claims that if you are not prepared to make mistakes you won’t learn. Joan Martin has been involved in group exhibitions in her own country and Internationally (USA, Canada, and France), Various local art studios and galleries have invited her to run adult workshops and present talks about art. She has taught online art lessons for various art associations since 2018. She has also assisted as a curator for various local art galleries.

Lorrie Bennett

SW Florida, USA based artist Lorrie Bennett is a self-taught, contemporary and expressive freelance painter and mixed-media artist and illustrator and has always known, from a very early age, that she was an artist. Creating has always been a journey of experimenting and exploration for her and as it continuously develops, Lorrie welcomes the freedom of artistic expression. Bound by no medium, she loves color and texture and often paints using an assemblage of layers of material such as acrylics, inks, pastels, charcoal, monoprints, photo transfers, fabrics and vintage ephemeral papers. Lorries’ life has been shaped and inspired by nature with its complex beauty and this especially influences her art. Her current figurative and animal works are often embellished with beautiful florals or contain forest inspired scenes. Her paintings combine a mixture of classical painting style with modern, expressive and even abstract details while the layers of mixed media she uses peeks through what has been painted, pulls you closer, and exposes more of the painting’s story. Lorrie has been blessed to have her artwork reside in private homes and businesses, as well as multiple publications, children’s books, and awards.

I primarily paint with oils or watercolors, and love to play with mixed media and collage in my journals. In 2011 I became a Certified Zentangle®Teacher (CZT), teaching my students mindfulness and relaxation by creating art through the use of repeat patterns.

Saskia Van Drunen

Saskia van Drunen is a Dutch artist living in a quiet village in the south of the Netherlands. She lives there with her husband and two children. Saskia’s work is full of colour and transparent layers and her style can be described as abstract realism. She loves to play with colour and experiment with different media, markmaking and techniques. And the first layers of a painting are perfect to explore freely, they are expressive and perfect for her love of inks, spraypaint, acrylics, pigment powder, markers and more.
She combines the abstract with portraits and figures as they both excite her, and she also loves to add in graphic elements as a juxtaposition and as symbolism. It’s the authentic emotion and feelings that she want to express through her brushstrokes. She hopes her art inspires people to follow their passion and empower them to feel free to being your true self.

Nanda Boukes

I am Nanda, a Creative Guide, Intuitive Artist Originally Dutch, now living in Spain. My Sacred SoulArt  is intuitively created and often infused with Crystals, intentions, energy etc. Out of your head into your head is what i life by and how i create. I love to create freely and explore and play with ideas that are coming up, letting me lead by my heart. Tapping into play, exploration and combining different techniques. My focus is on the process, and not getting blocked by focussing on an endresult…. But rather let that part go. Allowing things to ¨happen¨ while creating, that it is there for a reason. Painting a story, a message, rather than a lifelike perfect image…letting your soul speak through what you create. My passion is to help woman awake their creativity, (re)ignite their creative spark, heal through art, (re)connect them with their inner child and higher self, show them the amazing power creativity holds, and how to use it for your inner soul work

Jackie Campbell

I graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 1980. Later I achieved my Post Graduate Certificate in Education and remained in the teaching profession until taking early retirement 5 years ago. Through my art and teaching career, I have been fortunate enough to teach art to children of all ages and on retiral have provided therapeutic workshops to adults, helping support their ‘Recovery Journey.’ I now enjoy my days indulging in my passion for portraiture of both humans and animals. I am fascinated with the contrasts of light and shade and the impact it has when reflecting on a living subject. It is also an outlet for expressing, understanding and resolving my thoughts and emotions. I love graphite and charcoal in portraiture to convey the ‘Inner soul of a subject.’ While the world of pastel and acrylic allows me to experiment with colour, pattern and texture. I also enjoy mixing these for further unique effects.
Four years ago I was introduced to digital art and I now also love creating digital paintings and drawings using Procreate, it appears to have limitless possibilities. Much of my work is commission based but I also sell prints and exhibit and sell original works through my Facebook Page and in art galleries locally.

Olga Furman – hostess

Hello, and thank you very much for stopping by! My name is Olga Furman, I’m an artist and the hostess of this amazing collaborative program called PAINT YOUR HEART AND SOUL 2022!
I’m originally from Russia and have a pedagogical degree in Art and Music. Art is my life and it never gets boring because there is always something to learn! In 2019, I won 1st place in a juried exhibition at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, where I am continuing my art education. This year my painting was included in the “Select Fifty” of the Art Of Portrait international competition by the Portrait Society of America.
I currently live with my family in Central New Jersey and work and create in my home studio. I’m married, have two teenage girls, and a pup. All of my family members are a part of our “Support Team” and provide administrative and technical support. If you have any questions – don’t hesitate to drop us an email at pyhas2018@yahoo.com .

I have always felt very conservative about online classes until I attended one myself and it completely changed my mind – I have been hooked on online art classes ever since! The accessibility of the lessons from your own home, on your own time, and the opportunity to play the same lesson or a segment of it and replay any time is priceless!
In 2016, I closed my physical art school to dedicate my time to online teaching. In 2017, I hosted our very first Paint Your Heart and Soul! 6 years and thousands of happy students later, it feels like an extended family from all over the world – I couldn’t wish for more!

Our main mission is to provide high quality art lessons at an affordable price. In PYHaS2023, we are so lucky to collaborate with 40 amazing professional artists who are excited to teach in this course!
You will have an amazing opportunity to learn different styles, techniques, approaches, tips and tricks our instructors use to create beautiful art. By joining a year long program, you will be encouraged to consistently practice in a welcoming and supportive environment through our community on social media.
